Thanks to the 2,706 property owners who voted in support of the Burlingame Storm Drain Measure. With 63.4% in favor the measure passes and Burlingame might be able to avoid some of the draconian cuts planned for our police, fire & library services.

City storm drain runoff flows into our creeks and the Bay - allowing trash, debris and pollutants into our environment.
The deteriorated storm drain system is 80 years old with overflows causing public safety risks. Flooding has trapped fire trucks preventing safety officers from reaching those in need.
The City Council agrees that we need to prevent these problems with a Storm Drain fee.
This website has been created by the Citizens Advisory Committee, Protect Burlingame, to help educate the community and mobilize support for a mail-in ballot measure scheduled for May 2009.

If the storm drainage measure had been unsuccessful it would not only have resulted in continued flooding, slower emergency response and higher repair cost for many years to come, but in order to provide a minimum funding ($2 million/year) to make the improvements over the next 30 years the Council would have had to consider further reductions including closing a library branch, closing a fire station, reducing police force by 5 officers and other cost cutting actions.
